Cloudette

Cloudette is written and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld for children 4 to 8 yrs.  A very simple and charming book about a little cloud with a big message.  The pastel illustrations are beautiful and unique.   This book is a winner children of all ages will enjoy reading again and again.

Cloudette is a very small cloud, as clouds go.  There are some advantages to being small.  Cloudette has lots of friends, she can  fit in tight spaces, and she has her own cozy place to sleep.  There is only one problem, Cloudette isn’t big enough to do what the BIG clouds do, like create huge rain and snow storms, and water crops.   As she watches from a distance, she wants to make a difference in the world.  Then a big storm  hits her neighborhood and she is blown far away where she finds herself on a journey.  Through much determination,  perseverance and courage, Cloudette finds a way to do something important.  A very sweet book about self-discovery.  Watch the book following book trailer.

    • It is a wonderful book for kids. Reminds me of The Little Engine that Could a timeless classic. Young children will really like this book. The video was fun. Also found another book trailer related to the book, and how children (perhaps his) collected rain water, strained it, and poured it into a jar. They called it Cloud water which the author/illustrator then used to mix with the paints for the book illustrations. Very clever.

  1. Such a cute little cloud, loved the colours- so cheerful and beautiful message, I came racing over to see Cloudette when you told me. Looked up Tom’s website and really like his range of books, so colourful, and sounds like an approachable guy.
*claps* clever you with your side bar. Left new message for you.

    • Thank you Diane, it is a beautiful story about courage and positive thinking. Yes, I have another Lichtenheld book, Bridget’s Beret that is absolulutely delightful with another great message. Wanted to review them both, but I was concerned it would be too much with the video. His website really is something.

Thanks, I realize I have some tweaking to do.

  2. I want to read this as much for the illustrations as the story. One of my favorite kids books was full of clouds and I have a soft spot for them.

The promotional video is awesome; very effective. I want to know what Cloudette discovers. Sounds like some good humour too.

    • You will love the illustrations Joanna. I have a soft spot for clouds too — loved playing cloud games as a kid with kid or just myself. I have a couple of his books and thought about reviewing several, but with the video, it needed to stand a lone. Bridget’s Beret is a beautifully illustrated one as is What Are You So Grumpy About. Check out his website. His books have strong messages for kids — right up my alley. :)
